Summer Travel: Your Guide to the Perfect Getaway in Sardinia

Discover one of Italy's best-kept secrets for your 2024 Summer Holiday – Sardinia! Having explored both the northern and southern areas of Sardinia this past September, we were absolutely blown away by the sheer beauty of this hidden paradise and the incredible hotels and resorts we visited. For seasoned explorers who prefer steering clear of crowds, this is a hidden gem worth exploring. So, below is everything you need to know before you start planning your Sardinian summer holiday.

How do I get to this area of Italy?

Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport is the best choice for visiting the northern area of Sardinia, and Cagliari Elmas Airport is the best choice for visiting the southern area of Sardinia. To access these airports, you will need to fly with a connection. Some travelers like to add a pre- or post-stay at a destination in Italy to avoid a connecting flight. For our arrival, we flew into Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport with a layover, allowing us to connect on a flight to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport. With a connection, we confirmed a VIP Arrival Service to escort us fast-tracked through Rome's airport customs area to our next gate. When traveling internationally, we highly recommend VIP airport services, whether or not you have a connection. It's a level of luxury service we prefer to make our experiences as smooth and easy as possible. For our return, we departed from Cagliari Elmas Airport to Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. To make our travel return as relaxing as possible, we stayed one night at La Posta Vecchia Hotel Ladispoli, located about 30 minutes from the airport. This coastal luxury hotel was the perfect way to end our stay in Italy before the long travel day to return home.

Where to stay in Sardinia?

We traveled from the North to the South of Sardinia experiencing the BEST of the BEST resorts to bring you our personal feedback from our experience.

Northern sardinia:

7Pines Resort Sardinia, part of Destination by Hyatt

7Pines Resort Sardinia is a beachfront resort located in Baja Sardinia. Recently making its debut in summer 2022, this resort is great for couples or families. We experienced the Laguna View Suite in the adult-only area of the resort, making the experience relaxing and tranquil. The suites have a lovely patio surrounding the pool area, making your private space very much like having your own reserved daily cabana with lounge chairs, an outdoor living area with a seating area, and a dining area. While we found the beach area to be small, there are many beaches in the area to drive to that are not to be missed for their cove sandy entrance to clear water.

Hotel Cala di Volpe

Hotel Cala di Volpe is an iconic resort located in Costa Smeralda. We absolutely fell in love with everything about this resort! Luxury shopping from the moment you walk into the hotel at Dolce Gabanna, gorgeous views of the most spectacular yachts in the Mediterranean, one of the largest saltwater pools, dining on property at Beefbar and Matsuhisa, and spending the day at the exclusive Matsuhisa Beach Club. Located only a few minutes from Porto Cervo and the Marina, we were able to dine at the best restaurants, do the most high-end shopping, and watch the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.

MUST STAY SUITE: The Harrods Suite is a MUST if you want the most special experience! Three bedrooms, a private wine cellar, a gorgeous bar and living area, and the most spectacular rooftop pool with the most gorgeous views! It does not get better than this!

Keep Your Eye On...

Hotel Pitrizza and Hotel Romazzino

Hotel Pitrizza and Hotel Romazzino were both in the The Luxury Collection by Marriott. Currently, they are changing management. Hotel Pitrizza will be managed by Cheval Blanc, and Hotel Romazzino will be managed by Belmond. The full transition with renovations and branding elements will take time, so for now, we were happy to have the opportunity for a site inspection just to view the location aspects. We will not feel comfortable selling these products to our clients until everything is all set. This is an exciting opportunity for the destination to have these brands on the horizon so stay tuned...

SOuthern sardinia:

Forte Village

Forte Village is the perfect resort for couples, families, and especially multi-generational vacations. Clients who visit Forte Village seem to make this resort an annual visit. From luxury villas attracting celebrities to oceanfront suites to rooms throughout the property, there is truly the perfect match for each client. This resort offers so much value with the half-board pricing. A highlight is the opportunity for kids to soccer train with team players from the stars of Fundación Real Madrid. In addition to the soccer program, the resort offers tennis, paddleball, basket ball, cycling, hiking, water sports, golf, and many other exclusive, authentic local experiences.
